
In this lesson, students will create a colorful pop art owl (inspired by a great horned owl) using simple art materials.
What You Need
drawing paper
Black permanent markers (Sharpie)
Googly eyes
Paper bag of some kind
Crayons or Coloring Pencils
Paint (optional)
Paintbrushes (optional)
Using a black permanent marker, or a black crayon or oil pastel, children can follow along to create an owl.
You can use regular computer paper for crayons, but if you are using paint, make sure the paper is thicker.

Have kids draw a big u-shape on the paper bag. On the front where the flap is.
Close the U at the top with a
straight line.
Draw feather tufts on either
side of the U at the top.
Draw two big circles for eyes. Draw two smaller circles You can also use googly eyes. Kids will glue the googly eyes onto the two smaller circles they made.

them in with black.
Draw a small triangular beak,
with the point facing down.

Kids can then color the owl the color that they want.
Have kids cut out the outline of the paper bag and paste the owl onto the construction paper.
